REGIONAL: St. Vincent Opposition Member Charged
In St Vincent , one of the National Democratic Party (NDP) losing candidates in the December 9 elections has been granted bail in charges of assaulting police , following his arrest at an opposition protest this week.
Ben Exeter pleaded not guilty to three charges of assaulting police when he appeared in court on January 1st, 2016.
Exeter; who lost to the Unity Labour Party (ULP) candidate, Sir Louis Straker in the Central Leeward Constituency was among opposition members and supporters who were staging a demonstration outside Parliament.
At the time, Members of Parliament were sitting for the first time since the Unity Labor Party’s victory at the polls.
Ben Exeter is to return to court on January 25 , 2O16.
A 17 year old opposition supporter was also charged with obstructing police and the use of dangerous equipment , arising out of the same demonstration
The NDP has insisted that it will continue its protests and will not accept the results of the elections.
The Unity Labour Party won eight seats to the NDPs 7 , giving Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves an unprecedented fourth consecutive term in office.
Opposition leader, Arnhim Eustace said the party would file election petitions.
