Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit among CARICOM Heads on a two-day special visit to Guyana following highly disputed general and regional elections there
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is among Head of CARICOM who traveled to Guyana this morning on a special two-day mission.
He is joined by CARICOM Chairman, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottely. St. Vincent Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchel as they try to attempt to ease tension in the country following disputed general elections last week.
The delegation will meet with the leadership of all parties that contested the polls and also representatives of the Commonwealth, Organisation of American States, European Union and Quata Centre Observer Missions that were in the country to monitor the elections.
Both the main ruling coalition and opposition have claimed victory at the polls. The matter is however tied up at the courts after an injunction was filed by a supporter of the main opposition, Peoples Progressive Party Civic to block the Guyana Elections Commission from declaring the results.
