President of Dominica looking forward to continued relations with the Republic of Finland
President of Dominica His Excellency Charles Savarin is looking forward to continued relations with the Republic of Finland in the areas of education, green energy and meteorology.
His comments came as Finland’s New Ambassador to Dominica His Excellency Jukka Pietikainen presented his credentials on Wednesday morning.
His Excellency Savarin says Dominica is hoping to be collaborate and benefit from Finland’s expertise in climate change resilience, communication technology, electronic engineering and mass communication.
The President also applauded Finland’s interest to explore new areas of cooperation with the OECS.
“It is hoped that ongoing discussions between Finland and the OECS Secretariat will be successfully concluded and that an agreement will be reached. This new development will contribute greatly to our youth’s socio economic development,” he said.
Mr. Savarin also highlighted to the new Ambassador Government’s commitment to becoming 100 percent renewable energy reliant for the generation of electricity.
“Perhaps one of the most difficult challenges impacting negatively on our economic development is the high cost of electricity and to overcome this challenge the Government has placed in the area of renewable energy,” the President stated.
His Excellency Savarin also told the new Ambassador that Dominica looks forward to benefitting from regional programs which have the potential to making a transformational impact on the country’s economy and to strengthen the resilience of the infrastructure to withstand natural disasters.
