PM Responds to UWP’s Electoral Reform Claims
Prime Minister Skerrit says Opposition Leader Lennox Linton must refrain from talking on electoral reform and begin to act on the matter.
Linton told a forum on Thursday 3, March 2016, that the Opposition intends to challenge proposals made for electoral reform. In fact, in a release last week, Linton said, “the responsibilities of the Electoral Commission and Integrity Commission are being subjected to substantial legislative changes designed to make them weak and ineffective, if not dangerously unable to carry out their original mandate.”
The nation’s leader told DBS News that Government has always supported the need for amendments to the legislation and changes to the country’s election laws.
He says Linton needs to submit his amendments to the commission.
