Law: “A Noble Profession”- Attorney Ronald Charles
Just recently Sir Brian Alleyne called on lawyers to be ethical in their duties while several senior lawyers have made that call in recent times.
Attorney Ronald Charles says all lawyers need to embrace good ethical behavior.
“I believe the whole issue of ethics is fundamental. It is fundamental because it is a noble profession and at the end of the day we must carry ourselves in high regard. Persons give us instructions on certain issues and we have to learn to make sure that we do it in the best way that we can. We must do it from a legal perspective and therefore in terms of the whole issue of ethics throughout our studies, our ethical views on the whole legal fraternity and practice is important.
“You cannot for example, work with a client and [be unable] to account for the client’s funds. This is just not ethical. In this regard, I must embrace the words of Sir Brian…”good ethical behavior- so that society can have respect for us, society can embrace us and we can move forward as a society.””
Charles was on Saturday recognized by the UWI Open Campus Dominica receiving the Community Service award at the 2nd annual UWI Alumni Dinner and Dance and awards ceremony at Fort Young Hotel.
