Lack of migration policies in the OECS posing a major setback
The lack of migration policies in the countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States OECS is posing a major setback as health workers migrate from the region.
The Pan American Health Organization PAHO is currently carrying out a study in 17 Caribbean countries to survey current migration trends of health care workers in the Caribbean region.
Migration Consultant Justin Pierre is leading conducting the study, and says Governments within the region need to put measures in place to curb the issue.
Some 200 interviews have already been conducted in the OECS States.
The results of the survey will be used to develop recommendations and address the challenges that migration poses for the health sector of the countries involved.
