Dominica’s Boiling Lake Turns Cold; Temporary Ban Imposed on Site
Officials at the UWI Seismic Research Center are urging Dominicans to heed the advisories of local authorities and to stay away from the boiling lake until activities have returned to normal.
The lake has currently lost its boiling characteristics and the water has been cold for the past few days.
Dr Graham Ryan of the UWI Seismic center speaking on Q95’s Hot seat program this morning says that the conditions at the lake are being closely monitored and that the lake could start boiling again with little or no warning and also spew out toxic gases.
Meantime, Dr. Velda Joseph of the UWI Seismic Research Center says there is no need for panic as the activities at the lake are not signs of any imminent volcanic eruptions.
