Dominica and China to Break Ground for $51.3M West Coast Road Project
The ground breaking ceremony for the 51.3 million dollar rehabilitation of the E.O Leblanc highway is set for Friday.
The works became necessary after the ravages of Tropical Storm Erika in 2O15.
According to Minister for Public Works and Ports, Miriam Blanchard the ceremony is the culmination of more than a year of preparatory work on the project.
She says the government of Dominica appreciates the patience of the traveling public to date and solicits the continued tolerance of road users as work progresses.
The approximately 51.3 million dollars project will cover rehabilitation of identified damaged areas along the 45 kilometres of the E.O Leblanc high way, as a gift to the Government and People of Dominica from the government of the Peoples Republic of China.
Prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit has stressed how Dominica’s sincere and good relations with the Peoples Republic of China have led to the execution of a number of critical infrastructural projects including the rehabilitation of the E.O Leblanc Highway.
He says the Chinese Government has always demonstrated its friendship to Dominica especially in difficult circumstances.
The ground breaking ceremony for the rehabilitation works takes place in Macoucherie on Friday at four in the afternoon.
