Dominica Council on Ageing Inaugurates New Executive, First Ever Youth Arm Launched
President of the Dominica Council on Ageing, Gloria Shillingford has called for a different attitude towards the elderly.
The DCOA elected a new board of directors during its twenty-second annual general meeting (AGM) at the Fort Young Hotel on Wednesday 31 May 2017.
Shillingford, former Minister of Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs and principal, was elected to the post of president.
Her call came at the weekend during the inauguration of the new executive of the Dominica council on Ageing.
The rest of the executive is Evander Joseph , first vice president , second vice president Nigel Lawrence ,secretary Nicholas George , treasurer Cecil Joseph , and assistant secretary treasurer , Lennox St Amie. Ainsworth Irish ,Ophelia Marie and Robertine Seaman are super members.
A 22 member youth arm of the Dominica Council of Ageing was also launched at the ceremony.
The Dominica Council on Ageing presented awards to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Dr. Curtis Sabroache, Attorney Duncan Stowe, John Fontaine and Hima Marie for their support to the Dominica Council on Ageing. Algernon Jerome, Dr. Valda Henry, Colin Bully, former President Zetma Toussaint, Yvette Latouche and Veronica Pascal were also recognized by the Dominica Council on Ageing.
A dossier compiled by Bernice Balson Joseph of the Dominica Council on Ageing, on 15O years of persons living above 1OO years was launched at the function.
The Diaspora Desk, an initiative by Paul Alexander who lives in St Thomas was a feature of the ceremony.
Meantime, Tourism Minister Senator Robert Tonge who represented Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said Government will continue to show commitment to the welfare of the elderly
