Dominica and New Zealand sign New Agreement to Support Construction of Geothermal Power Plant
Dominica and New Zealand have expanded cooperation in geothermal energy development with the signing of a US$1.5M agreement.
The agreement signed on Wednesday will support the construction of a seven megawatts geothermal power plant in Dominica.
Since 2014, the Government of New Zealand has been providing Dominica with technical assistance for the development of Dominica’s geothermal resources.
The new partnership will provide technical advice for the front end engineering and design, an environmental impact assessment, Management plan and management system and a project manager to be seconded into the Dominica Geothermal Company to execute the project for a period of up to 24 months commencing in 2017 and concluding in 2019.
The geothermal plant is expected to be commissioned in 2019.
Dominica has expressed its profound gratitude to New Zealand for providing support to Dominica’s geothermal energy development efforts.
